After 20 minutes by car from Paris, we arrive in a setting with a complete change of scenery. After having crossed nice plane tree-lined alleys and stone facades, we reached the Boulevard de la Reine, where the hotel is located. A grand entrance, similar to the one of the Parc du Château de Versailles gives an idea of the place refinement.
Arrival
Valets are taking care of the car. Once you cross the door, the hotel entrance is sumptuous. The perfume, specially prepared for the place, is melting with the perfume of the lily standing in the lobby. From there, we can see the luminous gallery with its black and white tiled floor, its chandeliers, artworks and green velvet sofas.
In the privacy of the lobby lounge, refreshment is offered to the customers. It is a delicious cocktail with pear, apple and rose. The Queen Marie-Antoinette was apparently fond of it.
The Deluxe Park view Room
Once we had completed the check-in, the desk person escorted us to our room. The 403 is located in the fourth floor of the Trianon Palace and offers an outstanding view over the Château de Versailles Park, from the sheep alley. The setting is really charming. From there, we can see the Park, alleys, the forest, a grassland with sheep and the hotel kitchen garden à la française. When the weather allows it, there is a nice sunset over the wild, an event that we haven’t missed!
As a welcome, sweets such as Gordon Ramsay candies, a bottle of still water, a bottle of sparkling water as well as fruits with cutlery had been set on a small table.
Spacious, the room has two windows, including one French window with a guardrail, a desk corner, a flat screen TV set on the marble chimney, a large wardrobe with mirror doors where the minibar is hidden together with an electric kettle. The floor is covered with a carpet and a large dressing allows storing the luggage. The Hilton brand signature brings a contemporary touch to the whole. The original decor details are still there with cherubs, 1900 moldings and the marble chimney.
The room is well equipped with the required to prepare a tea or a coffee for instance. Special care has been brought to the bedding. The bed is 2 meters large. Its comfort is enhanced by an on-mattress. There 3 soft rectangular pillows. Linen are made of cotton sateen and finely embroidered with Waldorf Astoria Collection, Trianon Palace hotel brand.
There is a nice black and white mosaic tile drawing roses. There is a sink, a beauty mirror, a large bathtub and separate toilets. Women will enjoy the flattering lights to make-up… The heat is coming from the floor. Beauty products are from the Salvatore Ferragamo brand. A parquet floor corridor is leading to the bathroom thus allowing a good soundproofing of the bedroom from the others areas.
Catering
In the evening, we have been to La Véranda restaurant for the dinner. As its name suggests, the background is pretty bucolic. Large openings are offering a view on the field with the sheep and the hotel kitchen garden. The countryside landscape is a nice chest for the elegance of the place : moldings, damask sofas, chandeliers with pendants, mirrors, gleaming tiles and shrubs. Our table was next to the window, with a direct view on the nature and the sunset. The second good surprise was the cuisine! We have decided to try the flank steak with a Marsala sauce (this one got way beyond any expectation for its tenderness, its presentation and the mix of savors) and the Italian beef tartar (very fresh with the avocado, the bufala mozzarella, the French fries and the toasted bread with olive oil). For the dessert, the strawberries with the peach and the yuzu-mint sorbet are a pure delight with a special mention for the amazing sorbet that reveals mint leaf perfume as the best Moroccan tea would. The cuisine, the place and the great service made us enjoy a perfect time.
The breakfast is also served at La Véranda restaurant, thus allowing rediscovering the place with a different lighting. The buffet, set in the gallery, is generously arranged. Everyone can organize its perfect breakfast : multiple kinds of breads, fresh fruits, diaries, fresh fruit juices, salmon, cold cut, cheese, sausages, potatoes… Crepes and omelets are prepared in front of you on demand. A special buffet is dedicated to children so that they can directly make their selection as their parents are.
On the Sunday, for lunch, we had a snack at the Galery-Bar terrace. It is the perfect time to enjoy sunshine. Surrounded by shrubs and seated in comfortable sofas, it is a perfect place to relax while admiring the outstanding facade of the hotel and the pine trees. As we had a good breakfast, we have just tasted the selection of tapas with a coffee (served with a macaroon). This plate offers a nice assortment of Oriental and Occidental savors : foie gras, tapenade, nem, smoked salmon and samosas. The staff is very responsive here as well.
Activities
The Saturday, we have been to the swimming pool. This one is huge and enjoys daylight through large opening on the solarium and an atrium. It is set under the garden. Multiple deckchairs are available around the pool.
In this area, you could also access the hammam and the sauna. A drinking water fountain is available. For the guests staying in the “Pavillon” side, an underground corridor allows them to reach the pool area. For those staying in the “Château” side, the path is quite enjoyable through the Guerlain spa.
Stroll in the garden of the domain is pretty nice, especially next to the sheep field. Those looking for an extended walk have a direct access to the Château de Versailles park, as the Trianon Palace is next to it. The hotel situation is perfect. It is in the middle of one of the most beautiful place in France.
Two tennis courts are available and rackets can be loaned at the hotel. During our stay, a Bentley exhibition, showing models from the twenties to today, was organized, thus enhancing the prestigious character of the place.
Conclusion
We had a really pleasant stay in a chic and bucolic setting, steeped in history. I especially enjoyed La Véranda restaurant, for the cuisine and also the background and the hotel terrace. I’ll be happy to come back to try the tea time with appetizing pastries, macaroons and the Marie-Antoinette tea by the Maison Nina. We didn’t have a chance to try it due to lack of time but this will be the opportunity to come back during the heyday to spend a royal afternoon in the countryside.
