How to describe magic? We’ll make our best to describe our idyllic stay at the One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai.
The Royal Mirage is nestled on the edge of the ocean. The resort includes three properties : The Palace, The Residence & Spa, and The Arabian Court. The whole appears as an oasis mirage with Dubai towers and their thousands of lights as a chest. An Arabic haven of peace on the banks of one of the most fascinating cities in the world. Here, everything is pure luxury and refinement with a strong focus on the art of hospitality.
Arrival at the hotel
The promise of a complete change of scenery can be felt while crossing the porch through the alleys bordered by flowers and palm trees that led us to the Arabian Court where we stayed. What a wonder to enter into this palace welcomed by a strike on the traditional gong. Here, the check-in will not take place behind a regular desk but rather comfortably seated in a luxurious sofa with a tea as a welcome.
The nobility of the place can be seen in any corner of the hotel. You will discover this while getting to your room. You will cross the main alley crowned by seven arches and walk on the frescoes made of seven marble echoing the seven colors of the desert sands. You will be fascinated by such refinement and will immediately feel privileged.
The Deluxe Room
The Deluxe room includes a large bed, a seating area, a desk corner and a large dressing. As for the rest of the hotel, materials have been selected with great care : marbles, woods, damask velvet. Soft tints are echoing the traditional pottery punctuated with colored touch, thus enlightening the green and the blue of the garden and the sea.
The atmosphere is both refreshing and felted. The bed is decorated with a majestic lacquered wood panel similar to the one in the bathroom. From the bowl of fruits to the rose and lily flowers that you will discover upon arrival, the twice daily service, the branded slippers, everything has been thought to make it feels like home. Our kind housekeeper made an outstanding job to ensure a pleasant stay for us.
The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by nice dark wood sliding doors. It has a large bathtub and also a walk shower made of stone and mosaics. Several brown and beige marbles cover the floor, the bathtub and the area around the sink. Glass pearls of the lights and subtle golden touch make it shine. We could stay there for hours!
Another place that invites to relax for hours : the terrace. All offer a view over the garden and the sea. The hotel architecture has been thought in a way that you will not be overlooked. Depending on the room orientation, you could admire the exotic garden, its flowers and birds, with Dubai iconic skyline as backdrop. Simply incredible! I couldn’t get enough about it, I was thrilled every night by this show!
On the terrace, you will find two chairs and a table where you could take the breakfast or a room service.
You will enjoy listening to the inspiring music of the movie introducing the hotel that is showing up every evening on the television screen. It creates an atmosphere on its own. Beyond that, the television has a large number of local and international channels and also a DVD player.
For the WiFi, a complimentary access for up to two devices is included. It works very well, even around the pool which is nice.
Catering
At the One&Only Royal Mirage, four possibilities are available for the breakfast : the room service and three buffets. The breakfast buffets are delivered at the Olives and Celebrities restaurants for the Palace and the Rotisserie for the Arabian Court. The one of the Residence & Spa is opened only to the guests staying there. All these restaurants have a terrace with a view over the pools and the gardens. You will have the pleasure to visit them whenever you want.
We have tried all those possibilities that all offer an excellent level of quality, which isn’t so common in Dubai, even in a luxury hotel. The breakfast buffets are really generous with delicious fresh fruits but also several kind of Viennese pastries, muffins, breads, cereals and a large offering of salted (cold cut, smoked salmon, cheese, cooked meals…).
The in-room breakfast is a delight. You can have in on the terrace while listening to the singing of the birds attracted by the soft smell of fruits and enjoying the garden and sea view. You can order the breakfast while you wake up and it will be delivered 30 minutes after that. This allows sleeping late without having to schedule on the night before the duration of your sleep.
An inescapable experience : the tea time! It can be enjoyed in the luxurious lounges of the Royal Mirage. You’ll be immersed into the Oriental tradition that can be found in every detail of the decoration and the atmosphere. We really loved the background of the Samovar Lounge underlined by the mirror parquet floor.
This tea time has nothing to envy to the tea times offered by Paris and London palaces, both for the abundance and the refinement. You will taste European and Arabic salted and sweet delicacies : finger sandwiches, scones, fine pastries, macaroons, nougats and marshmallows. Small jewels, comfortably seated in the silk sofas.
For the restaurants, the Royal Mirage offer is amazing! You will be spoiled for choice. We are going to describe the restaurants we have tried.
First of all, the Rotisserie! One of our favorites. It was our first culinary experience at the Royal Mirage while arriving after a 6 hours flight from Paris. We were delighted by the delicate and smiling welcoming and the majestic restaurant room. The buffet is generous with European and Arabic specialties. Don’t hesitate to dine under one of the alcoves outside for a romantic moment, rocked by the murmur of the fountain.
At lunch time, we had a meal at the Eau Zone, close to the Arabian Court pool. The restaurant serves a light and sunny Asian cuisine, perfect for a pleasant meal on a terrace.
For an elegant diner, we’ve tried the Celebrities at the Palace. This gastronomic French restaurant offers an outstanding view over the gardens and the pool. The decoration of the place presents an intimate and warm atmosphere, perfect for a romantic diner. The cuisine is creative and well executed. We were delighted with the food and the excellent service’s recommendations.
Another evening, we’ve tried the Olives restaurant Mediterranean buffet. Another inescapable place! All tastes will be fulfilled. And the French Chefs will be pleased to prepare some beautiful plates based on your requirements. Meats and fishes are worth the visit, just as well as starters and breads. But keep some room for the generous desserts buffet!
For an Oriental experience, visit the Tajine restaurant! A real immersion in the heart of Morocco. You will find a subdued light and felted Moroccan atmosphere. Traditional musicians enhance the spelling vibes of the place. Once again, courses, such as couscous and tagines, are generous. A tea to accompany the meal and the evening is perfect.
After a perfect diner, we enjoyed spending some time at the Rooftop Lounge. Located on the Arabian Court roofs, the bar offers breathtaking panoramas over the skyline of Dubai. It is really nice to sip original cocktails with such a view. A DJ is there to mix for the ambiance.
The Royal Mirage hotel is also renowned for the Jetty Lounge, a chic beach bar where you can meet friends in a relaxing setting with a 360° view over the city and the sea.
Activities
You will never have the feeling to stay in a crowded hotel here. The hotel was almost fully booked during our stay, however, all suggested the opposite. The beach is so wide (1 km), that it gives an unusual space between the couples of lounge chairs. What a pleasure to relax while admiring the view over The Palm and the towers of Dubai Marina.
In February, the sea is a little too fresh (22°C) but the pools’ water is perfect. You might enter in nearly like in a bathtub. Pools are really large, and once again, there is no problem to find a free long chair. As on the beach, you will be pampered. You will receive slices of fresh fruits all day long.
Beyond the idleness, you will have the pleasure to walk through the landscaped gardens of the resort. They are pretty huge and very flowery.
For those who wish, some sports are practicable such as tennis, beach volley or quite a few water sports.
The hotel also hosts a fabulous spa and the first Moroccan hammam of Dubai. A total wellness immersion in the tradition that we really enjoyed.
The Royal Mirage location is perfect for us. Close to The Palm, at the edge of the sea, only 5 minutes driving distance from the Marina, 20 minutes from the Mall of Emirates and 30 minutes away from the Dubai Mall and the iconic Burj Khalifa tower. All the local attractions are easily reachable. Please note that hotel shuttle brings you complimentary to the Mall of Emirates.
Conclusion
Dubai generates a wealth of possibilities and it’s hard to choose the perfect hotel to stay in. If your selection criteria are set for a total change of scenery blending with a very high quality service, as discreet as smiling, and if in addition, you are searching for endless beach landscape, luxuriant gardens and tranquility at the heart of one of the world most electric city, then yes, you might have unveiled your paradise!
Here, you will find all you need to spend some wonderful holidays, whether you travel in couple or with your family. In the view of the restaurants diversity, you will be able to discover different atmospheres and flavors without leaving the hotel.
We felt like royalties at the Royal Mirage and we just have one and only wish : coming back as soon as possible!
We should tell you : sunsets are breathtaking. During winter, around 5:30 PM and 6 PM, the show begins, just open your eyes!
