We had the nice opportunity to discover the starred cuisine of Le Céladon, the gastronomic restaurant of the Westminster hotel in Paris, located between the Place Vendôme and the Grands Boulevards. Le Céladon has been awarded one star at the Guide Michelin for 29 years now. Le Céladon cuisine is headed by Chef Christophe Moisand.
First, make sure to start your evening by a drink or end up with a coffee or a digestive at the Duke’s bar. The decoration of the Duke’s bar, made of green and wood tones is really felted. This is reinforced by the comfortable sofas and the fireplace. The ambiance echoes to the elegant British clubs. Then there is a pianist playing and it looks like his repertoire is broad from what we could hear. So the Duke’s bar is a nice piano bar in Paris.
It is located next to the Duke’s bar. You can reach it through the hotel entrance in the Rue de la Paix or directly via the Rue Daunou. Le Céladon setting is quite intimate as the Duke’s bar is. It isn’t a big restaurant and you’ll feel privileged to be there as the very few tables are quickly occupied.
For the decoration, Le Céladon restaurant is unique. It is a mix of French classic style with touches of Asia. The decor is bright with soft golden colors, clear wooden tones and beautiful chandeliers. Looks like a luxurious cozy Parisian home with a thick carpet, comfortable medallion chairs, paintings and a library. So it is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner in Paris.
When we arrived at the restaurant, the staff warmly welcomed us and offered us a drink. So we started this nice evening with a fruit cocktail from the bar together with mackerel rillettes. Really nice start, very tasty!
After that, few appetizers are brought to you. Their taste is as nice as their look is.
Then we got to the starters. We tried the organic egg with pink garlic from Lautrec and the crab. The organic egg is quite special, with a really fine taste. The crab meat is presented inside the crab, it is also quite good. Two creative and beautiful starters!
After that, we took the sole from Yeu island and the farm-fresh poultry. Again, a really nice presentation. I have tried a lot of soles in Paris restaurants as I like it and I have to say that this one is one of the best I have ever had, really tasty with a nice sauce. The tempura was also quite tasty.
The poultry tenderness was perfect, really well cooked. It is also presented, once again, in a creative way, a travel between land and sea. So we had very creative and tasty dishes.
For the desserts, we have ended up this nice dinner with the Guanaja chocolate and the granny smith apple. The chocolate dessert presentation made us thought that we had just landed on a different planet but the taste reminded that we were still in this nice restaurant. Same for the granny smith, very creative presentation and perfect taste.
After that, if you still have a bit of room or just a gourmet, you’ll enjoy the delicacies prepared by the pastry Chef, pure jewels!
We really had a nice dinner at Le Céladon. The service is top notch. Then, while this is a starred restaurant, you don’t feel like being in a sacred space where you can hear a needle drop. Here, the atmosphere is warm and cozy and the staff really made sure that we enjoyed every moment of that evening. They made good recommendations to us. Then from what we could see, a lot of guests are recurring guests thus proving that this is a place where people enjoy coming back.
For the rates, without the wine, if you order the gourmet menu or à la carte, it will cost you around 100 € for the meal. This isn’t so expensive for a starred restaurant in Paris, especially if you think about the quality of Le Céladon. Then during the week, there is an express lunch menu for 45 € (delivered in 45 minutes) and during the week end, Le Céladon becomes Le Petit Céladon and then the week end menu only costs 63 €. So price wise, Le Céladon has multiple options.
To conclude our review, Le Céladon is a nice starred restaurant to discover in the Opéra Garnier and Place Vendôme district. We have been amazed by the gastronomic cuisine and delighted by the setting and the quality of service. Le Céladon is definitely a restaurant we highly recommend you to try, the Red Guide was right about it!
