We recently had the opportunity to discover La Chinoiserie restaurant, the main restaurant of the Hyatt Paris Madeleine hotel. This luxury 5 star property stands close to the Place de la Madeleine and the Place de la Concorde in Paris, not far from the Champs Elysées Avenue.
The restaurant, La Chinoiserie, is nestled in a nice cozy area under the historical glass roof directly coming from Gustave Eiffel workshops. This glass roof allows enjoying the light of the day inside the restaurant. When evening falls, the warm and cozy atmosphere is reinforced by the cracking fire on the chimney.
Upon the entrance, the charm occurs. La Chinoiserie restaurant offers a chic and felted Art Deco setting, made of black and gold tones. In this both contemporary and unique decor, everything has been set for the best comfort : sofas, velvet cushions. You will instantly forget the frenzy of Paris.
We decided to visit La Chinoiserie restaurant on a cold winter evening. What a nice effect to enter a place with a warm atmosphere and seat at a table next to the chimney when it is cold outside!
Beyond its intimate character, the splendid decor appears like an appropriate setting for an as refined cuisine, as we would quickly realize…
La Chinoiserie Gourmet Menu
La Chinoiserie offers two options, either an offering of meals à la carte, either the Gourmet Menu that includes a number of meals also available à la carte that are presented as a menu. We have decided to try the gourmet menu.
This evening, the Gourmet Menu started with a selection of appetizers : truffle brioche, beet shortbread, pumpkin gazpacho and crunchy. In view of those little jewels, we were impatient to discover the following.
The first starter was Burrata from Puglia with preserved tomatoes, wild capers and virgin oil. The taste of this starter is still strong in my memory. Beyond the obvious fresh aspect of the products, the flavor is a pure delight.
The second starter, shellfish with endive leaves and mustard’s sauce with yuzu juice, is as tasty as finely presented with a stated care of detail where periwinkles and whelks are gracefully displayed. Excellent transition before the main courses!
Overall, we really enjoyed those starters, really refined and original. You already feel a signature in this cuisine.
The first course we’ve was the Lemon sole quickly fried with mushrooms and celery puree. Once again, a delight with this exotic touch.
The second one, the Roast duckling with several kinds of beets and a spicy juice led our taste buds in a journey. Tenderness, fineness and flavors, everything was there!
The dessert is based on a pear poached with vanilla. It comes with a Brittany shortbread (cookie from west of France) topped with ice cream and filled with a delicious salted butter caramel. This dessert is perfect. It melts several kinds of textures and tastes in a well-balanced harmony.
As you would have guessed, our review of La Chinoiserie is pretty positive, we were really pleased with our dinner. It is quite different from what you usually find in hotels restaurants. The gourmet menu has a nice quality price ratio as it costs 80 € (and 115 € if you want to get the wines with it).
So La Chinoiserie offers a perfect warm setting for a romantic dinner in Paris.
About Patrick Charvet, Chef of La Chinoiserie
All this culinary festival was orchestrated by Patrick Charvet. We had the pleasure to meet and discuss with him. He has an outstanding experience. When you understand all the places he has been to and all the Chefs he has worked with, it is easy to guess the number of influences that have shaped his culinary style. You will experience it in the meals. He has a real signature and this is what you expect from a Chef of this level.
Coming from the South of France, Patrick Charvet worked around the world, from Hong Kong to New York, passing through Tokyo with starred Chefs Guy Martin, Pierre Gagnaire, Michel Trois Gros and Daniel Boulud, only the bests! Then he came to Paris to work at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme with Jean-François Rouquette before being nominated to head the Hyatt Paris Madeleine cuisine offering that includes the Café M and La Chinoiserie.
Patrick has a passion for his art. It is nice to discuss with him and hear about his background and influences. A real journey is waiting for you, comfortably sat on those elegant sofas. You will discover seasonal products, carefully selected on the morning, before being enhanced with green touches and sweet spices, to be presented like the most beautiful tables of Asia does. A unique signature!
Here is a precious address to keep in mind. Our only wish : come back as soon as possible and share it! All the ingredients of a perfect dinner are here : felted setting, friendly and discreet service, and last but not least, a divine cuisine!
La Chinoiserie restaurant is also the place where hotel guests can take breakfast in the morning. Every Saturday and every Sunday, La Chinoiserie proposes a generous brunch, the Hyatt Madeleine brunch. Each afternoon, you may savor a tea time in the place with the famous Pâtisserie des Rêves.
