Sheraton Frankfurt Congress Hotel – Superior Room

Arrival at the hotel

The Sheraton Frankfurt Congress Hotel is only 10 minutes driving distance from the airport. It is located inside a business area with a lot of office buildings around.

When you arrive at the hotel, the lobby is a bit dark. Arrived around 3:30 PM and was checked in within 2 minutes, quick and easy. Got a superior room in SPG floor as SPG member. Not sure if this is regular “upgrade” policy for Gold members or if they usually get the executive room and then the Preferred level get the superior by default.

Arrived at my room on the 10th floor. It is not so large but not that bad, around 22 sqm (236 sqft). The decoration is really basic. Really feels like an Ikea room (probably because the Ikea coffee cup next to the kettle).

My room has a view on the street and the buildings around. I can hear a bit the planes from there. It isn’t so disturbing but the double glazed windows could be replaced with triple glazed windows, it wouldn’t hurt in the airport area. Beside that seems quiet.

The bathroom has a large bathtub. The water pressure is a bit low so it takes some time to fill the bathtub. And then, it isn’t ideal to take a shower. No slippers are given upfront. But I asked for a pair and they arrived in the room within 5 minutes! A bath robe is available in the room.

On the hotel website, it is written that the minibar is free in superior room but this isn’t the case. I checked with the desk and they confirmed that it wasn’t included, probably a mistake on the website…

As an SPG member, I got two complimentary bottles of water and 15% discount at the restaurant. The good thing is that every day, the empty bottle were replaced, nice!

There is a desk next to the window. It is large enough. The Internet connection is wired. There is free Wifi in the lobby but not in the room. The in room Internet rates are regular (16 € for 24h with limited bandwidth). The connection is working fine.

The temperature was hot when I arrived in the room. Tried to cool the room with the air conditioning but it turned out that it wasn’t cooling anything, it was just heating less. After having turned it off, the temperature went down and was better.

The bed is a regular Sheraton bed so the quality is somewhere between good and perfect. It probably just miss a mattress topper to be the best.

The room is equipped with a trouser press to make it ready for the next business day and an ironing board for the shirt, so everything to prepare clothes after a travel.

Catering

The breakfast is served at the restaurant starting 06:00 AM. It is German style meaning that you will find a lot of sausages, cured meats and also a good assortment of cheeses. There are several kinds of fruit juices and the waiter kindly offered to prepare a fresh orange juice for me which I denied politely as I couldn’t digest it.

While the diversity is ok, the breakfast buffet presentation could be improved. It isn’t so appealing, especially if you compare to what you see in other Sheraton hotels in Asia.

I have tried the Tölzer Stube restaurant located next to the lobby. The wood decoration makes it a special place. The food delivered is tasty, especially the meat. Had a nice one. The tomato with mozzarella were more common. All is served in German quantity meaning that the plates are large and well filled, you have to be really hungry to finish everything!

I have also tried the room service. The club sandwich was tasty, especially the chicken and the fries. The apple strudel with the ice cream wasn’t the best idea I had for a room service as the ice cream was almost melted when it arrived which was not really unexpected. I believe the room service presentation could be improved a bit. The paper towel and plastic tray sound cheap for a Sheraton.

Activities

Sheraton Frankfurt Swimming Pool

There is a swimming pool available at the garage level. It is heated and the temperature is fine. Even though it seems a bit cold when you enter it, after two minutes, you feel good. There is also sauna and hammam as well as a fitness center with some equipment.

Conclusion

Overall, the Sheraton Congress Frankfurt hotel is probably the best choice in this area of Frankfurt. The room decoration is a bit too simple but beside that, it is mostly within Sheraton standards. It is just on the presentation and decoration fronts that the hotel could improve a bit. But beside that, food and room are ok.
