The Hermitage Hotel of Monaco is located in the heart of Monte Carlo. It is a nice building with a 19th century architecture, iconic of Monaco identity.

Superlatives don’t lack to describe this palace. Immediately, the scene is set, 3 valets came to quickly take care of our car and our luggage. Free from those, we got to the desk. As we were staying during Christmas period, the sumptuous lobby was decorated with a Christmas tree whitened with artificial snow and surrounded by robotic stuffed animals. You can meet there with tigers, bears, foxes and owls, all with white shade. Really nice!

The desk manager escorted us to our suite. This was the opportunity to learn more about the Hermitage hotel history and also to be amazed by the architecture and the refinement of the hotel during this pleasant 5 minutes journey! The impression that stands out is that the property is frozen in time. We can see here the splendor of the Belle Epoque, with a great care for details and flawless maintenance. You can admire the large corridors made of marble and carved wood. Ceiling frescoes also catch the eyes.

The suite

After a nice walk into the corridors, we discovered the suite and it is in line with the rest of the hotel. Warm and comfortable, its style is classic. A large monochrome wall painting represents a Mediterranean landscape. A big chandelier overhangs the room. As a welcome, several artisanal fruit juices in an ice bucket, two bottles of water, one still and one sparkling, frozen chestnut and few sweets such as nougats, caramels, chocolates are waiting for us in a chocolate box. All those are set on the coffee table, next to the sofa. It looks very good.

A bow window is opening on a small balcony. What an outstanding view! Over the Monaco harbor, its yachts, the big wheel, the winter ice rink and the Rock of Monaco as a backdrop. It is a true show, day and night.

The bathroom hasn’t been left behind. In a luxurious and classic style, all the comfort is there. It includes a large bathtub, a separated rain shower and two nice sinks. The toilets and the bidet are isolated in a little room at the back of the bathroom. Nice toweling fabric bathrobe are available, those are really comfortable.

Beauty products are from the White Tea product range of the Bulgari brand : soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, shaving gel, all high grades. Two toothbrushes and a small atomizer are also available.

The bed is large and comfortable. The bedroom is perfectly soundproofed. It has numerous cupboards.

Catering

For the dinner, we got to the Vistamar restaurant, the starred restaurant of the Hermitage hotel. We had selected a table next to the window in order to enjoy the view over the Monaco harbor by night. The decoration is contemporary, bright and felted. The cuisine is a delight for the taste buds as well as the eyes. To illustrate this, take a look at the spectacular dessert that we have tasted. The restaurant is specialized in the hot souffles. We have verified this, I have tasted the passion fruit souffle, quite generous and really tasty. It wasn’t sickening at all, with an effective blend of sugar and fruit.

For the breakfast, it is outstanding, for the meals, the decor and also the service. It is set as a large buffet with an assortment of Viennese pastries, breads, salted meals, sweets and beverages. You can have this on the first floor of the atrium, under the Gustave Eiffel dome, overlooking the lobby with a Belle Epoque atmosphere. You can also have it on the outdoor terrace to enjoy the nice Riviera mornings. The dish is really refined, branded with the Hermitage hotel initials. The staff is really paying attention to your comfort. There is usually one person to take care of two tables. So the service is fast. All was made to ensure that this would be a special time and it was!

Activities

During our stay, we have been the Monte Carlo Thermes Marins to relax in the swimming pool. There is a direct access from the Hermitage. The swimming pool is large, surrounded by deck chairs and overlooked by a bar. A large bay window is opening on the terrace. From there, we can also reach the spa and the fitness center. As a lot of guests are going to the pool, it is quite possible that all the deck chairs are busy.

The hotel location is perfect to enjoy all the activities that Monaco can offer. The Casino and the Metropole mall are only 3 minutes walking distance. The Monaco move theater is on the opposite of the street. Then, a large panel of luxurious stores such as Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Lanvin or also Louis Vuitton as well as famous jewelers are next to the hotel.

Conclusion

To summarize, this stay has been a permanent enchantment. The hotel decoration is so nice that we always enjoyed going through the sumptuous corridors. Then the quality of service and the attentive staff made it a really special time. All this with the magic that Monaco offers during the end of the year period. It was the first step of a memorable journey.

At the Hermitage hotel, if you are coming regularly or if this is the first time you stay, everything will be made to treat you as a VIP. During the check-out, the desk lady recognized us and addressed us with our name. She remembered it since the check-in from the day before. It isn’t something big but this is the kind of details that makes all the difference.
