La Sultana Marrakesh is a luxury boutique hotel, affiliated to the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, located in the historic Kasbah district of Marrakesh. La Sultana invites you to a luxurious journey in an authentic riad style hotel with a unique decoration. Indeed, the hotel is the consolidation of five riads with five different styles that we will discover.
Arrival at the hotel
We arrived at La Sultana on a sunny Sunday. It is only 20 minutes from the Marrakesh airport. The hotel is nestled inside a lively neighborhood with a lot of shops. You directly feel the special nature of this luxurious boutique hotel when the taxi stops by the cul-de-sac where the hotel is standing.
A valet immediately picked up our suitcases. We found those back later, waiting for us in the suite.
La Sultana hotel doors give an idea of the level of refinement of the place, all made with a lot of sculpted details and luxurious materials. Stepping into the property creates the feeling to discover an exclusive haven of peace.
The check-in was quick and easy. The desk staff is really friendly and smiling. They escorted us through the hotel up to the rooftop terrace where a tea was waiting for us with few Moroccan pastries. Needless to say that this first stroll through the hotel corridors was a pure enchantment. We have been really amazed. Each corner of the property catches eyes. This masterpiece of beauty has been decorated from floors to ceilings by the hands of traditional Moroccan craftsmen. Even, if you aren’t staying at La Sultana, you have to get there for a dinner to discover the decoration, it is just unique!
The Deluxe Suite
Every room and suite of La Sultana has a unique setup and decoration. Ours is located on the first floor with a view over the courtyard of the riad featuring the swimming pool. It is called the Elephant room because of the decoration related to Africa and the elephants.
When we entered the suite, we have been amazed by the sense of space. The living room is very large. It opens up on the bathroom on one end and the bedroom and the terrace on the other end. All the decoration is made of dark wood and clear stones.
First, on the right, you have a cozy living room with a red carpet, a sculpted wood sofa (first time I saw one, it is really a masterpiece of this suite decoration), a dressing separated by heavy sculpted wood doors and a chimney! In the dressing, we had the surprise to find two straw hats together with pool towels. This was the first time I saw a hotel providing straw hats to protect guests from the sun.
Fresh fruits, Arabic pastries, dried fruits and a bottle of still water were waiting for us on the table! All this reinforces the feeling to be really welcome.
The bedroom is really nice as well. It is set in an alcove, separated from the living room by beautiful curtains. The bed headboard is made of a large painting showing an elephant bordered by two sculpted elephant tusks.
There is a private terrace with two chairs and a table where we have spent some time relaxing with the view over the riad courtyard and the pool.
I really loved the bathroom. The two sinks are really shining with their gold tint. Then the bathtub with the columns all made of marble is another masterpiece of this suite decor. This is a large jacuzzi bathtub that you can activate by pulling a cord. The bathroom products are coming from Clarins. There is a separated walk in shower and separated toilets.

The air conditioning works well and it is pretty easy to handle. Overall, the room temperature was never too hot, probably because it is an old construction with thick walls. Suite guests can also enjoy free soft drinks in the minibar.
The room is serviced twice a day. In the evening, our bed was prepared and a fresh date was left on the pillow for a good night.
Catering
The breakfast is delivered on the rooftop terrace. From our table, we have a direct view on the Saadian tombs with their colorful tiles and carvings.
The breakfast is set as a buffet breakfast with multiple options that can be prepared on demand. Fresh fruits, cereals, Viennese pastries, fruit juices, cold cut, cheese, all the classics are there. La Sultana is a small hotel so don’t expect a large breakfast buffet but what we have seen is that they had paid a lot of attention to the presentation of the available dishes. It looks very luxurious.

We had a lunch in the peaceful atmosphere of one of the riads with the murmur of the fountain. It was quite enjoyable as the temperature wasn’t too hot there. The lunch menu is made of international hotel classics and local meals. We have tried the burger and a salad, both were tasty with a nice presentation.
In the evening, we have been twice to the rooftop restaurant. The 360° view over Marrakesh is a must see. It is a very romantic place for a dinner in Marrakesh. The menu is a mix of local and foreign recipes. It is served generously on an exquisite porcelain and crystal glasses. Iron plates are sculpted with La Sultana name. I had a fantastic couscous there with very refined semolina.
Activities
La Sultana has a full service spa located next to the pool. The spa decoration is breathtaking as you can see on the picture. Wall and columns are all dressed with pink marbles. The treatments provided are coming from the Moroccan tradition.
There is also a swimming pool in one of the riads courtyard. The swimming pool decoration is really nice with the columns and the arches. It is quite pleasant to lay on the sun decks. One nice detail, a pillow is available for enhanced comfort on each of those. On the rooftop terrace, there is a small pool available as well.
The hotel offers cooking classes with the Chef. We haven’t tried those but from what others guests told us, it was pretty interesting and interactive.
Next to the hotel, a lot of shops are available if you want to bring something back from Marrakesh. The famous Marrakesh souk, next to the Jemaa El Fna square is 15 minutes from the hotel.
Conclusion
We had a timeless stay at La Sultana hotel. It offers a complete change of scenery. It is a really unique boutique hotel. The decoration is the one you could expect from a luxury riad with the difference that here, we have five riads with five different atmospheres.
Staying at La Sultana is a permanent enchantment. We have been amazed by its refined decoration. We have spent a lot of time going through the riads and admiring all the details of the decoration. With the light evolution during the day, the details are appearing under different ways for the pleasure of guests.
Another key asset of La Sultana is the level of service delivered by the staff. They are really paying attention to your well-being. They friendly make their best to build a customized relationship. We were really sad to leave as we had felt really welcome here. The renowned Moroccan hospitality takes its real meaning in this authentic and sumptuous, spellbinding and welcoming Marrakesh property. We have just one idea in mind : get back as soon as possible!
