The Château Eza is nestled inside the medieval city of Eze, 300 meters above the Mediterranean sea level.
Arrival at the hotel
The Château Eza access is the romantic journey through the narrow streets of Eze. For the comfort, the valet will take care of your car and the luggage at the village entrance. While waiting for the check-in, a welcome cocktail has been offered to us in the living room facing the period chimney. Then, we were offered to select one of the two suites from the same category. One was very cozy with a chimney and an outdoor heated jacuzzi on the terrace, the other one had a warm imperial style. We select the second : the Royal Suite.
The Royal Suite
The Royal Suite, as its name suggests, offers a king style. After climbing the steps of the little stone stairway, we arrive at the suite entrance. Large, it opens over the living room with the bed on the opposite end. Noble materials are used : oak parquet floor, velvet drapes, paintings, carpets, big chandelier and Napoleon furniture. A bouquet of flowers is welcoming us. The decoration is really nice. This is a complete change of scenery.
An alcove with magnificent stained glass windows is opening on the bedroom. It hosts a jacuzzi bathtub with lights. This little modern jewel perfectly integrates within the overall decor. It is a perfect place to relax.
The balcony adjoining the suite offers a nice view 350 meters above the Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula and the sea. Whatever the weather is, the show is impressive. During our stay, in winter, the weather was overcast, giving the feeling to be at the end of the world.
The bathroom is in line with the place. All in marble, it has a large shower with a window offering a view over the Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula. Certainly a unique opportunity to enjoy a shower with such a view! A door isolates the Japanese toilets set with all the features we could imagine for such a little room. The Asian travelers are always looking for this kind of toilets. The bathroom products are coming from the Occitane brand. We can find those in the shower, next to the sinks and in the jacuzzi alcove.
The bed is comfortable. The soundproofing isn’t perfect. We could hear the restaurant air conditioning during the night.
The minibar and the safe deposit box are in the dressing next to the room. Its size is large enough to have one large suitcase opened. A large mirror is correctly set there for the guest comfort.
Catering
We had a dinner in the hotel gastronomic restaurant. It is a starred restaurant where the dining room is set above Eze rock faces. It was a key part of our stay. I have been really charmed by its intimate atmosphere. 12 tables with 10 duo tables facing the bay window. Low ceiling, exposed stones, master painting, chandeliers and candles delivering a subdued light are making a perfect decor for this place with a magic view. Dining next to the bay window, 300 meters above the sea level with an endless view over the French Riviera : this is magic!!
For the menu, we have selected the “tasting menu” that is only available when all the guests at a same table are taking it to ensure there is no synchronization problem for the service. First, I was a bit concerned since 8 meals would be delivered, but those were so fine that I was quickly relaxed. A pure delight…
While coming back to our room, few cakes and Frères Damman infusion were waiting for us. What a delicate attention, really appreciable before going to bed.
The breakfast is delivered at the same place. What a pleasure to enjoy again this view during the day. When the weather allows it, we can see the coastline up to Sainte Maximum (more than 100 kms from there). 3 breakfast formulas are available à la carte.
Conclusion
Stay at the Château Eza hotel is an invitation to travel through time in a romantic atmosphere. All the rooms and suites are scattered in the village. This adds to the charm and gives the feeling to stay on its own residence. We stayed there during the year end period. Visit Eze during this time is perfect as it isn’t really crowded if you compare to the summer period. The narrow streets with Christmas decorations are bringing a magical touch to this special place.
